When you first read Kicking a ball to your little one, you have no idea of the journey you are about to embark on. And I don't just mean the rhythm, language and drawings. But the journey from childhood to fatherhood. And with it, the bonds of love and friendship.

POSITIVE THINKING:
What is it about a rhyming book that we all love? The fluidity of Kicking a Ball allows the story to bounce along much like a ball on the move. Ahlberg tells his story with brilliance and simplicity. Add to that, the fact that the pages come alive through the artwork of Sebastien Braun, who as illustrator, compliments Ahlberg's work perfectly; here's a book to love.

KEEP IN MIND:
Sorry to say this but I can't help but feel the final line is somewhat lacking. But who am I to question the work of a prize-winning author who has had over 100 children's books published?!

LIFE AS IT IS BLOG - THE VERDICT:
Ahlberg has managed yet again, to create something incredibly special. This book, with its glorious illustrations, and the never ending circle of life played out with a ball, is heart warming, humorous and real.

Kicking a Ball communicates the essence of life itself - and much like the game of football manages to bond countries and cultures around the globe, this book will no doubt bond children and parents everywhere.

That said, I'd really like the last line of the book to result in more of a finale. To read as if it is the end - and not as if it ought to continue.
